Experience
I have over 20 years of experience as a home cook, creating delicious, wholesome food for family and friends. I left the corporate world to run this website and do food photography for clients full time. I love what I do and am SO grateful that I get to spend my days creating recipes for you.
My fascination with food started early through helping out in the kitchen. My mom was an avid baker and taught me how to follow a recipe. As an innate rebel, I taught myself how to break the recipe and try new things.
I was raised in Alaska and spent summers on my grandparents’ farm in Oregon. At the time, fresh ingredients weren’t always available in Alaska but wild game and salmon were abundant. On the opposite end of the spectrum, fresh food was a part of daily life in Oregon and we spent summers picking blackberries, currants and produce of all kinds from the garden. We would collect eggs, milk goats, and catch crawdads at the creek and then shuck corn and help my nana prepare epic meals for our huge family in the evening – aunties, cousins and all.
I’m the 13 year old in the chef hat below cooking with my Nana. The picture on the right is my own daughter, Stella, following in our footsteps.
My parents are adventures and I grew up traveling and trying new foods along the way. In college, I worked at a cafe and learned new cooking methods and techniques while gathering a circle of friends that are just as food-obsessed as I am. We still BBQ and do dinner nights often and I always learn something new anytime I cook with friends.
in 2014 I started this blog to share my creations and the rest is history!
A Few Fun Facts About Me
- I love entertaining and if you stop by, you’ll probably walk away with a full stomach or at least a latte or some banana bread.
- I love anything sweet but am a savory girl at heart and cooking dinners, appetizers and breakfasts is my favorite.
- When it comes to food, I eat it all. There are very few things I don’t eat.
- I’m travel obsessed and at my absolute happiest exploring new places.
- That being said, I’m not traveling, these days I’m an absolute homebody. In my opinion, having an early morning coffee on my covered patio on a drizzly fall day is one of life’s best moments.
- I have a backyard garden and orchard that I cook from all summer. When you see random blog posts like how to dehydrate figs popping up on the blog, that is the reason. Somehow I manage to kill most house plants though.
- I am an avid reader and while I don’t find time to read books as often as I used to, I listen to 3-4 audiobooks a month.
- I am a history lover and wanted to major in art history in college. (ha, nerd)
I do my best to eat food that makes my body feel good and aim to help you do the same!
